Day 98 - Good Friday: He Died On The Cross For Us

 Focal Scripture: Matthew 27:45-56

Hey everyone, my name is Bryan and welcome to Bible Scoop. Today, we look at the book of Matthew, its 27th chapter verses, 45-56. Let’s head into it. https://www.bible.com/bible/296/MAT.27.45-56

In this scripture, as we all know this is one of the chapters out of the many showing Jesus’ suffering for us. Today, we are going to relate this suffering of our Lord to the old testament because that incident in the old testament represents his suffering for us and how he saved us from our big sins.

The scripture that is related to the suffering of our Lord is Genesis 2:1-19. This scripture is basically Abraham going to sacrifice his son because of God’s commands. And, God knowing that Abraham is a faithful servant. Now, we might be thinking, how is this related to our Lord’s suffering? Let me explain.

Now, we know that the journey from where Abraham lived, to the land of Moriah is three days long (mentioned in the scripture) and obviously it is a long journey. Now, we can also see another thing, we can see that after Abraham reaches the land of Moriah and before he goes to the mountain, he is asking his son (Isaac) to carry the wood for the offering.

This is where it is related. In this scenario, Isaac is Jesus Christ, because as Isaac was carrying the wood up the mountain before he was going to get sacrificed, so did Jesus Christ. He carried the cross made out of wood and went up the hill of Golgotha before he was going to crucify for us.

After Isaac is laid down on top of the wood, there is a twist. Now, as we know before Abraham is going to slay his son, the angel of the Lord appears in front of Abraham and tells him to stop and tells him that he is a faithful servant of the Lord. We also know that after the angel spoke with Abraham and Isaac they see a ram stuck in a bush by its horns.

This is the twist. The twist is that right now we are Isaac and the ram that was stuck in the bush by its horns is Jesus Christ. Because, as we know Isaac was in trouble and was going to die and he could not do anything. But that ram saved his life because they had nothing to say thanks to God, they had nothing to offer to God. And, as we also know Jesus Christ did have the crown of thorns on his head which is also why Jesus Christ is represented as the ram that was stuck in the bush. As Abraham said God will provide. And, God did provide for us from the sins that were going to slay us and destroy our life.

Not our physical life but our spiritual life. So, technically our sins will kill the relationship between us and God (the relationship between us and God is spirituality). So, on this Good Friday God wants us to know that Jesus Christ died on the cross for us and that we have to say thanks to God so, so much because of the big suffering that he took on for us.

So friends from today onwards, let us remember to say thanks to God for his suffering. Let us also make sure to know that he did surely save us from the sins that were going to destroy our life. Let’s also remember that Jesus drank the cup of suffering that we were supposed to drink and saved our lives through the biggest suffering anyone could go through. Let us remember one more thing, that is that he loves us so much that HE DIED ON THE CROSS FOR US!
