Day 81 - Closer To God

Focal Scripture: John 15:5-17

Hey everyone, my name is Bryan and welcome to Bible Scoop. Before we get started I want to wish you all a Happy New Year. For today’s focal scripture we are going to turn our heads to John 15:5-17. https://www.bible.com/bible/296/JHN.15.5-17

Now from this scripture, we can make out that the whole purpose of this scripture is to get us closer to God.

The first way that the scripture is teaching us to be closer to God is, through the Bible/the Gospel of the Lord. In verse 10, we can see that it says, “If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love.” Now, if we zoomed in on the word, ‘command’ we can understand that the commands of the Lord are written in the Bible. One of the examples that we all know, is the ‘Ten Commandments’. So step one would be to read, understand and follow the commandments and ideals that God has stretched out to us.

The second way that the scripture is teaching us to be closer to God is, through the fact that we branches are a part of the vine which is Jesus Christ. So, being the people that are connected to Jesus Christ, we have to follow the ways of Jesus Christ, which are to be kind, help people, etc. No we all might've got confused when Jesus said that we will bear much fruit. Bearing much fruit means that we will get a lot of blessings and that we will be rewarded greatly.

So friends from today onwards, let’s try our best to get closer to God. Because, as we know, getting closer to God is the best thing that we could do for ourselves. Let’s remember that if we do follow these ways, God will be pleased, and this will get us CLOSER TO GOD!
