Day 71 - Doing The Things God Wants Us To Do

Focal Scripture: Luke 16: 19-31

Hello everyone, my name is Bryan and welcome to Bible Scoop. Today, we hop into the book of Luke, its 16th chapter verses, 19-31. Let’s go. https://www.bible.com/bible/431/LUK.16.19-31

In this scripture, we see a story that I think most of us know about. It’s the story of the rich man and Lazarus. Now, if we look deeper into these Bible verses, we can understand that, this story is teaching us two things that we have to do every single day of our lives.

The first something is that, when we get good things in our lives and it is completely okay to enjoy those things. However, we should make sure that we don't get carried away and enjoy all these things in an appropriate and adequate amount. We should also give some of the good things to people who need it most. We should not follow the rich man.

Because, as we know, every single day Lazarus used to come up to the front door of the rich man’s house, trying to look for bits of food that dropped down from the table which was where the rich man and his family would be dining. And, the rich man didn’t even consider to give a quarter or some part of his food to Lazarus.

The second something is that, as the rich man while in hell said, “Send Lazarus to my father's house, where I have five brothers. Let him go and warn them so that they, at least, will not come to this place of pain.” Abraham gave a reply, which was, “Your brothers have Moses and the prophets to warn them; your brothers should listen to what they say.”

The rich man in hell gave an immediate reply which was, “That is not enough, father Abraham! But if someone were to rise from death and go to them, then they would turn from their sins.” He didn’t only say that about his five brothers, but also about us. Because, we tend to not believe until we see miracles or wonders. So, this story is telling us to not believe only after having seen miracles or wonders. Instead, believe without seeing.

So friends from today onwards, let us take into our hearts the two things that this story is trying to teach us. The first thing, enjoy the good things that we get but to a limit and give some of the good things to others. The second thing, to always believe in God without seeing miracles or wonders. And also remember that, if we are doing these two things, we are DOING THINGS THAT GOD WANTS US TO DO!
